The epistolary genre has long served as a primary vehicle for examining the complexities of familial bonds and the private lives of prominent literary figures. This collection gathers letters from Mme de Sévigné, George Sand, Sido, and Colette, situating these personal documents within the broader tradition of French autobiographical writing. These texts reflect how domestic life and intimate correspondence have historically intersected with the public identities of these women writers.

The volume includes an anthology, a study file, and notes by Frédéric Maget, as well as an image analysis by Agnès Verlet. The work contains correspondence between mothers and daughters, presented within the Folioplus classiques collection published by Gallimard in 2007. Readers interested in the history of French correspondence and the representation of family life in literature may find this collection relevant.
