Bibliography

The study of narrative structure has long been a central concern in screenwriting and dramatic theory, drawing upon principles that date back to classical understandings of plot and character. Constructing a Story by Yves Lavandier addresses components of the writing process, including the development of character arcs, the implementation of thematic subplots, and the use of dramatic irony.

The author draws on his background as a filmmaker and educator to examine the practical aspects of crafting a narrative, ranging from the initial pitch to the final dialogue continuity. By discussing elements such as the core motif and scene-by-scene development, the book covers various narrative mechanics. Readers interested in the technical aspects of screenwriting and the application of narrative mechanics across theatre, cinema, and television may find this examination of the creative process relevant to their own practice.
