It is easy to imagine what Gerda felt when she saw how her peer, the little robber girl, tickled the neck of a reindeer with a sharp knife. The girl was loved by birds and animals. The story that Andersen told teaches that love, sympathy, humanity, selflessness - eternal human qualities help a person to emerge victorious in the most difficult life trials.
