Prague Linguistic Circle

Prague Linguistic Circle: A group of scholars centered in Prague (in the former Czechoslovakia) who continued working in the vein of the Russian formalists after that school was suppressed by the Soviet government in the 1930s. Leading members included Roman Jakobson (a leader of the original Russian formalist school who emigrated to Czechoslovakia from Russia) and René Wellek.
