Iconography

Iconography: The representation of religious figures in painting and sculpture with an eye to symbolic significance. Iconography in most religions encompasses a set of established conventions for portraying the subject. Iconography can also refer to the study of any subject represented in the visual arts, the conventions governing its representation, and the symbolic significance of the resulting work of art.
