Born in Yuyao, Zhejiang Province, and graduated from Fudan University, Wei Hui is a representative of the New Generation Writers (Xin sheng dai zuojia). A self-described exhibitionist writer whose works deal with urban, materialistic life in contemporary China, Wei Hui is best known for her sexually explicit novels, Shanghai baobei (Shanghai Baby) and Wode chan (Marrying Buddha).
